Opioid Therapy Medication Use Evaluation (MUE) Tool
The Chronic Opioid Therapy Medication Use Evaluation (MUE) tool is an interactive, customizable software tool that imports and analyzes retrospective pharmacy claims data to help determine utilization patterns of opioid therapy in a targeted patient population. With this information, users can identify opportunities to develop interventions that promote appropriate use of opioids, improve care, and provide education from the perspectives of the payer and provider. The Opioid MUE is specifically developed to analyze selected claims-based retrospective pharmacy claims data, and to provide summaries of important utilization and prescribing measures. The tool displays plan-specific results for various utilization measures with comparison to a nationally representative commercial reference dataset, or to a Medicaid reference dataset.
